About Wellstrong Health

I’m Dr. Alexandre Goncalves, and I’ve spent over 20 years at the intersection of science, medicine, and manufacturing.

My career has taken me from leading biomedical research institutes to the front lines of advanced therapy manufacturing. I’ve worked as a Senior Director and Principal Scientist specializing in Process Development and CMC (Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls) for genetic medicines. I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to bring a molecule from the lab bench to clinical trials—and ultimately to patients.

Why This Site Exists

The supplement industry is flooded with marketing hype, pseudoscience, and products that make bold claims with little evidence to back them up. I realized that my skills—evaluating data, understanding manufacturing quality, and cutting through regulatory complexity—could be put to use helping people make smarter, safer choices about the supplements they take.

Wellstrong Health is my way of translating complex pharmaceutical science into practical, actionable advice. Every review, every ingredient deep-dive, and every recommendation on this site is grounded in the same rigorous standards I applied in the lab and the manufacturing facility.

My Background

  • 20+ years in pharmaceutical development and CMC
  • Senior Scientist at leading biomedical research institutes (2005–2019)
  • GMP Specialist II – MSAT at Lonza (2019–2021), working with 50+ cell and gene therapy companies including Iovance, Rocket Pharma, CRISPR Therapeutics, Moderna, and BioNTech
  • Independent GMP Pharmaceutical Consultant (2022–present), collaborating with CDMOs including Samsung Biologics, Fujifilm, Charles River, and DSM/Merck
  • Expertise in viral vector engineering, gene editing tools, mRNA therapeutics, and regulatory compliance for ATMPs

How I Evaluate Supplements

When I review a supplement, I ask the same questions I would ask about a pharmaceutical product:

  1. What does the clinical evidence say? Are there peer-reviewed studies? What are the dosages? Who funded the research?
  2. Is the ingredient quality verified? Does the product use pharmaceutical-grade ingredients? Is there third-party testing (USP, NSF, or similar)?
  3. How is it manufactured? Is the facility GMP-certified? What are the quality control processes?
  4. Are the claims reasonable? Does the marketing match the science?

I don’t accept free products for reviews. I don’t take money from supplement companies to write positive articles. If I recommend something, it’s because the evidence supports it—plain and simple.

Over the years, I’ve been the person that doctors call when they’re out of options. My supplement evaluation framework has been trusted by physicians in leading hospitals—not because it’s popular, but because it’s evidence‑based.
